Okay Jerry - Here you go, although I must admit I wasn't very thoughtful back then about lyrics...

Any Eagles tune - 1976 - Take it to the Limit - "Put me on a highway and show me a sign - take it to the limit one more time"

Already Gone - 1974 - "And I'm already gone; And I'm feelin' strong; I will sing this vict'ry song"

Hotel CA - okay - I never got this song but I loved it!

Lyin Eyes - 1975 - "You can't hide your lyin eyes"

BTO - 1975 - "And said, You ain't seen nothin' yet"

Steve Miller Band - 1977 - "I want to fly like an eagle, to the sea, Fly like an eagle,Let my spirit carry me"

Steve Miller Band - 1977 - "Goodbye to all my friends at home Goodbye to people I've trusted I've got to go out and make my way"

Ok - now I have to get back to work... but anything Fleetwood Mac - Elton John - Aerosmith - Doobie Brothers - OMG - there are so many...

I couldn't help myself...

How about:
Were Just another band out of Boston.

Life's beeen good to me so far..(Everyone thought it was their song!!)

Anything from the Billy Joel, The Stranger Album
I just saw him in February and it was definitely a trip down memory lane.

Elton John -Goodby Yellow Brick Road

Kathi - It was B-B-B-Buffalo, You just ant seen n-n-n-n
nothin yet.

Lots of great memories.
Draging main street, basketball and football trips, Ole's pizza, swimming at the reservoir, drive thru liquor stores (oh right, Sheridan still has those!)

I am looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up!!

Well I remember how my college room mate would bore me by constantly playing Don Williams and Merle Haggard albums all day so I am sure some of those would be on his list. Oh wait that was you Jerry and they weren't. Hmmm? One of my favorites Wild Cherry....Play that funky music white boy!!

05/21/08 02:41 PM #5

Chuck Hutton

Wow! I can't believe you people actually knew the correct lyrics.

I'm gonna have to think about this awhile.. Will get back at ya... All I can think of is "Saturday, Saturday and then Mrs. Bisbee pulled the earphones out of the tape player-thinking I should be listening to German instead of Elton John....How dare she?

Hey guys,
Maybe it's selective memory, but you forgot the obvious. How about the endless loop of "Saturday Night Fever" on the Bronc bus while playing poker over a stretched out blanket. That poor bus driver! I wouldn't last an hour driving a bus and listening to some of the stuff my kids listen to.

How about anything from the Stones, The Eagles,Dan Fogelberg, Foreigner, Supertramp, JT, Ted Nugent, Joe Walsh, BTO, Alice Cooper.

Favorite songs is harder to pin down.

Player "Baby come back"

Pablo Cruise " Love will find a way"

Joe Walsh " Lifes been good"

Fleetwood Mac "The Chain"
That was my favorite "psych up" song for a track event.

Alice Cooper "School's out"
Obvious reasons.

Speaking of Dode, we can't forget Earth, Wind and Fire. "Boogie Wonderland" and "Mighty Mighty........She's a Brick House" I don't think you did stop Dougie in time, he did buy the head band and the leg warmers!!!!!

The wild band Kiss with the soft song (Beth)

Or

The Cars

I don't mind you comin' here
and wastin' all my time
'cause when you're standin' oh so near
I kinda lose my mind
it's not the perfume that you wear
it's not the ribbons in your hair
I don't mind you comin' here
and wastin' all my time

Do you remember the name? IT's....................

Just what I needed

...and every radio in town was tuned to 1520 KOMA in Oklahoma City. Windows down, cruisin' Main, and the song was the same in every car ;-)

My AM is '60s-'70s oldies... it hurts my ego to admit that the songs I played when I was first on the air at KROE are now officially OLDIES. What's that make us, eh?

05/30/08 11:25 PM #10

Toni Marosok

Just older-NOT OLD!!!!!
I'm hoping that Lisa, Becky, Laurie will remember-the 'culvert picnic'........
Kathy, you can borrow some stories for your daughter-I have plenty.

We musn't overlook The Captain and Tennille. Who can forget the inspiring lyrics from "Muskrat Love":
...Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses ...

06/04/08 12:07 PM #12

Don Helvey

Karen,

"Muskrat Love"......... a true classic. How could anyone forget?

....Suzie says, yes, with her kisses
Now, he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle
Now anything goes as they wriggle
Sue starts to giggle ....

What can you say except "WOW!!!!!!!" I can hardly wait to download that on my MP3 player.

I think we would be remiss if we didn't include the lyrical genious of:
Taste of Honey " Boogie Oogie Oogie"
....There's no time to waste let's get the show on the road
Listen to the music and let your body flow
The sooner we break down the longer we got to groove
Listen to the music and let your body move.
Tell me that doesn't make the hair on your arms stand up just a little!!!!!!

06/04/08 12:52 PM #13

Chuck Hutton

Don - I'm shocked you didn't already have "Muskrat Love" on your MP3 player. I can hardly make it through the day without listening to it.

I remember being at the Skyline and a song came on and I still couldn't tell you who sings it, but it went - "Like a picture(ok it was princess) she was laying there, moonlight dancing off her hair; She woke up and took me by the hand, we made love in my Chevy van and that's alright with me".

Every time I hear that song it reminds me of the Skyline Drive In. Do any of you remember that song or who sung it?

06/04/08 01:36 PM #14

Don Helvey

Zab,

I knew that you would know any song about a van, or a 1940 Buick sedan. What was that cool green car you had? Do you still have it? I remember riding around Main St. and the horn would honk every time you turned right. Remember following those bikers and your horn kept honking when you turned? I think you could have out ran them if they chased us!!!!!!

Chuck,

Can you believe it? I really didn't have it on my MP3 player, You're so lucky, you got to listen to it everyday!!!
I haven't thought about the Skyline for ever. Remember the Dusk til Dawn shows? Four back to back scary movies all through that one scratchy speaker that you hung on the inside of your window. I wonder how many of those got torn off when people drove away? I remember seeing probably the scariest movie ever at the Skyline..... "The Blob".... those poor people couldn't escape "the Blob" they would have to stand motionless and scream for like ten minutes till it creeped up and got on a toe and then they were done for!!!! I still have nightmares!!!

Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave.

running on empty jackson browne

and how about ELO?

Kathi Johnson (Cragoe)

Jerry's car was great - but Sam (the Chevy 2) was a classic - and the best part was the floor boards were rusted out so we could drop the beer through the floor boards if we were being followed!!! Not that we ever had beer but you know the "safe drop" was there...

06/05/08 09:53 PM #17

Karen Madson (deMeurisse)

Huh? MP3 Player? I listen to all these songs on my 8TT Player (that I earned by selling Readers Digest subscriptions).

Susan, I do rememember that song---loved Jackson Browne.

Kathi, who can forget Sam? The hole in the driver's seat (with a birds eye view to the asphalt) was always good laughs on a rainy day :-)

I still have the "Grama Car" 75'plymouth FURY=from Grama and she made her own memories............the best thing about her is the space, the feeling of driving a a tank and the great reception (a.m.) radio and it was Grama's.....the worst-is the cost of GAS!!!! If she could run on stories I would be able to run for thousands.........I may be living in the past but, what about Rare Earth: "I JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE."
I turn it up up as loud as Blanca can stand....I have to listen to Sirius to get good tunes............

06/08/08 11:49 AM #19

Don Helvey

Toni,

" I just want to celebrate" I love that song and I couldn't have told you in a million years that it was by Rare Earth!!!!! Not with out looking it up on the "retro site" that is.
This song always reminds me of "little Merley Pearly"
although I would never call him "little" or "Merley" or "Pearly" because he would probably tear my head off even though we were friends.
Manfred Mann's Earth Band "Blinded by the light"
"Some silicone sister
With a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong"
"Play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly
Came by in his curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride"

Little Early-Pearly is of course, always, sung " little Merley-Pearly"

06/10/08 11:58 AM #20

Kathi Johnson (Cragoe)

Really???? the REAL words were NOT "Little Merley Pearly"???

Kim Acker (Lanners)

What happened? I was really enjoying reading these. All I remember was the Friday nights believing I could be like Starkey & Hutch and almost lost it going over the bridge on Loucks. I think I landed almost to the turn to the park. It scared me enough to think again. Also, if I really should visit the Touch Light again, enough said on that one. For many weekend nights, the CDs of choice were the Steve Miller Band or Areosmith.

You all may remember your cars with love but who didn't get at least one ride home from school in my green 1970 AMC Javelin???

We used to pretend we were Streets of San Franciso on the hill beyond the court house. Not sure what the name of the street is... too many years - but flying over that hill was a trip - not to mention totally STUPID...

Hi Jerry: My music was all on eight track.

I was listening to Aerosmith and Big Ten inch,

Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody We are the champions of the world.

Led Zepplin Stair way to heaven

Gary Wright Dream Weaver "whatever will get me through the night."

Peter Frampton, Do you feel like I do?

James Taylor,Fire and Rain, "Sweet dreams and flying machines in peices on the ground"

Fleetwood Mac, Rhiannon

America's Horse With No Name

Harry Chapin's "Cat's In The Craddle" the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon little boy blue and the man in the moon.

How about America and a horse with no name. The ocean is a desert with its life underground and a perfect disguise above under the City is a life made of stone....

I got this one from Rich Wilson Jackson Browne's "Rosie""But Rosie, you're alright, you wear my ring. When you hold me tight, Rosie that's my thing. When you turn out the light, I got to hand it to me. Looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie."
Along with Jerry Jeff Walker Up against the Wall you redneck mother,

Jerry:

I look forward to catching up as well this will be the first reunion that I have ever attended so it really has been 30 years since I have been around the class of 1978. The Champaign-Urbana area was wet but we dont have any major rivers going through the area so we got away pretty good as far as flooding goes. The farmers are back in the fields replanting right now. Thanks for asking.
