Jerry Apel of Story passed away on September 10, 2013.
Jerry was born February 23, 1960, in Casper, Wyo. to Howard and Roma Apel. Jerry graduated from Sheridan High School in 1978. He attended the University of Wyomingand completed his education in Arizona in paralegal studies. He moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a paralegal and also as an office manager for a graphic design firm. 
He returned to Story to live in 1992. His love of the Big Horn Mountains inspired him to continue his love of photography. His photography is proudly displayed in the radiology and dialysis units of Sheridan County Memorial Hospital. Jerry greatly enjoyed hiking and skiing, and learning about the flora and fauna of the American West.
Jerry's compassionate nature and love of animals was evident in many acts of kindness, from rescuing a dog from the streets of Los Angeles to adopting a dog shortly before his passing.
Jerry was deeply loved and respected by his many friends, for his brilliant and irreverent sense of humor and fun-loving nature. 
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, by his father, Howard Apel, and his sister, Roxanne (Apel) Araas. Jerry is survived by his life partner, Don Krogue; mother, Roma Apel; brother, Ron Apel; nephews Robert Araas, Ryan Araas, Chris Apel and Kurt Apel and their families. 
He is also survived by his good friends Margo and Gary, Jenny, Ross and Noemi, Claire, Robyn and Gary, Wendy and Joel, and Tammy and Mike, along with many others.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Jerry can be made to the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.
A private celebration of Jerry's life will be held later this year.
